Grange Gazette

May Edition 2021

Do you remember back in childhood
How we loved the first of May,
When we hung flower-filled baskets
on doorknobs, then ran away?

Do you remember how the sweetest basket
Was for the one we loved the best,
And in it went the blossoms
that were fairer than the rest?

Such a beautiful and gracious custom
Somehow lost along the way
But the memories still linger
as we welcome in the May.

This year May is exceptionally cold with harsh frosts in the morning. April was particularly dry too so the flowers and grass are a little behind and waiting to ‘spring’ into life. Your sweet peas, planted a few weeks ago, are coming along nicely and any spare plants will be added to ‘Vinnies Plant Stall’. The stall has attracted a lot of support and so far Vinnie has raised around £45 towards the Resident’s Fund. We also thank Jan for donating garden items and plant pots to the stall, your kindness and support is always greatly appreciated.

We have a few loofah plants left and tomato plants should be with you soon! Please take a peak and see if we have any new plants, all at reasonable prices and for a good cause.

Entertainment

We hope you enjoyed the visit from Johnny Victory last month and songs from the proms and 1940’s.

Johnny will be returning to the Grange on Monday 17th May at 2pm with a concert in the courtyard and songs from the ‘Rat Pack’. So make a date in your diary and ‘swing’ by the dining room for an afternoon of your favourite tunes.

Live and Local Living Room

Our ‘time line’ project with graphic facilitator Laura Brodrick is currently taking shape. We have created a diverse and interesting display and thank families and residents for their help and assistance. Original items, photographs and memories are recreated in textiles, print and artwork so precious items are always safe and in your keeping. If anyone else would like to add their photographs and memorabilia to the display please discuss with Shirley who will be happy to help.

May Birthdays

This month we wish Doreen a very happy birthday on the 1st of May. Everyone at the Grange send their best wishes for your special day.
