THE GRANGE GAZETTE

MAY EDITION 2018

We welcome a busy month including celebrations for a royal wedding. Prince Harry will marry Meghan Markle on Saturday 19th May at St. George’s Chapel in the grounds of Windsor Castle.  The service will begin at 12pm and at 1pm the newlyweds will begin a carriage procession to greet well-wishers.

There will be television coverage during the day on BBC1 and ITV with special programmes and royal documentaries in the build up to their big day.

The F.A. Cup final will also be taking place on the same day.  Manchester United face Chelsea at Wembley with a kick-off time of 5.15pm.  The game will be televised on BBC1.

ACTIVITIES

We hope you enjoyed trying the different activities during the Open Day.  We have several pieces of artwork for display and it was lovely to see great-grandchildren joining in the fun.  The personalised smoothies were delicious and we raised £50 from the tombola, cake, Weleda and bric-a-brac sales.  The Resident’s Fund receive all proceeds helping to provide activities for everyone.

The afternoon session of reflection and meditation was a relaxing and beautiful experience.  Nell Brooker enjoyed meeting residents, family members, our friends and staff and would like me to pass her thanks and best wishes to you all.  Nell is currently helping to organise the Turtle Lodge Festival at Ransom Wood in the heart of Sherwood Forest.  Information can be found on the notice board and the  internet.

Poppy Project

Shirley is currently organising the ‘Poppy Project’ for our garden at the Grange. The knitted flowers will be displayed during November and although it may seem along time ahead time passes so quickly. Our knitters are eager to start the project! Please see Shirley if you require a pattern while copies for family and friends are located on the notice board by the main lounge.  Thank you.

Summer Fayre

This year our Summer Fayre will take place on Saturday 16th June with entertainment from Ilkeston Brass Band.

Shirley would be grateful for any items for the Tombola and soft toys for the Children’s Tombola before the day.  Many thanks again.

Birthdays

This month we wish Catharine a very Happy Birthday on May 3rd.  Everyone at the Grange hopes you enjoy a lovely day.

Quiz and Grand National Sweepstake

Our quiz was very closely run in April.  We must congratulate Sheila on gaining top marks and providing most answers during the tie-breaker.  Well done Sheila and thank you to everyone for taking part.

We must also congratulate Betty.  We presented Betty with a beautiful plant for choosing the winner of the Grand National, Tiger Roll. Well done!

Staff News

This month staff will receive Medication training.

May Day

Finally we have reminisced about May Day and talked about Maypole Dancing,   crowning of the May Queen, Morris Dancing and village life.  We close our newsletter with a little poem called…

The First of May

The fair maid who, the first of May
Goes to the fields at break of day
And washes in dew from the hawthorn tree,
Will ever after handsome be.
