THE GRANGE GAZETTE
MAY EDITION 2016
‘Never cast a clout till May is out’
During the last month we have enjoyed sunny afternoons in the garden and watched the rain and snow falling outside. I’ve be told not to cast my clout and when I find out what a clout is, I promise not to cast it!
In the mean time we will be planting green beans, sunflowers and pumpkins so they will be ready to transplant outside when the weather improves.
We are also making woollen items and decorations for the garden. The Ilkeston Craftbombers continue to support the Grange and have supplied dozens of blankets and muffs for busy fingers and we have given our many thanks for their kindness.
We would also like to thank the children for entering our competition to draw a picture of the Queen and we hope you enjoyed your chocolates! Your wonderful pictures are on display in the foyer. We will announce the overall winner of the £10 gift voucher on May 6th.
The Queen’s 90th birthday celebrations take place over the 13th, 14th and 15th of May. On Friday the 13th we welcome Mary Howson back to the Grange and look forward to an afternoon of entertainment. On Sunday 15th we will enjoy a celebratory tea.
Our sincere thanks also go to Stapleford Baptist Church for kindly donating books to all the residents. ‘The Servant Queen’ is a tribute for the Queens 90th birthday and if you require a further copy please see Shirley.
Our Summer Fayre will be held on Saturday June 18th and we have put in a special request for sunshine and blue skies this year. It may seem a long way ahead but we would be most grateful for any bric-a-brac, toys,
plants, homemade cakes, chutneys or preserves….infact anything we can use to raise funds on the day. You are always so supportive and your generosity really makes a difference to the activities and entertainment we are able to provide. We have recently purchased a dvd player for the main lounge along with a quantity of cushions and blankets. We are currently building up a library of films and would be happy to receive donations of classic musicals and westerns.
Has anyone a copy of the original ‘Brief Encounter’ with Celia Johnson and Lesley Howard or a copy of ‘Yankee Doodle Dandy’ with James Cagney?
