The Grange Gazette - June Edition 2024

Wow! It's Rock 'n' Roll!

Join Danny Gill as Buddy Holly at the Grange on Tuesday 4th June from 2pm.

We invite all residents, families and friends and extend a warm welcome to Sue, Susan, Alan and Brian who are members of the Hopfrogs Dance School and will help to rock and roll the afternoon away.

RAVE ON!

June Activities and Entertainment

We have a fantastic month ahead with an eclectic mix of entertainment and we can also look forward a visit from Bertie the Pooches therapy dog. Ruby retired from service at the beginning of the year but we will always remember her gentle and calming ways. We will ensure her owner Dale leaves the Grange with some well deserved treats for both dogs as we send our love to Ruby.

Speaker Paul Newsham will visit towards the end of the month with an afternoon of "Great Hymns". Paul has an infectious singing voice and we can look forward to an enjoyable afternoon as we learn about our favourite hymns.

June also sees Billy calling in at the Grange with his summer range of ladies clothing. Details will be confirmed and displayed in the reception area.

A full list of entertainment and June happenings can be found in the main corridor. Details are not only included in our newsletter but separate copies are always available for families and visitors who are welcome to join all entertainment and activities.

Our "Van Gogh" activity project is coming along nicely and will be displayed in the dining room area along with our finished art projects relating to Freda Kahlo, Klimt, Pollock and Kandinsky. We are also extremely proud of the poetry residents have produced during our Van Gogh activities and the printed results will be on display alongside our sunflowers.

Our "Memory Lane" project is also making progress and we have received information regarding the former owner of the Grange Sir Robert Doncaster and his family. Sir Robert's eldest son died on 1st July 1916 during the first day of the Somme offensive and the regimental archivist from the Lancashire Fusiliers will be visiting the Grange. It was extremely humbling to find on YouTube the Royal British Legion Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall from 2016 which includes the story of Ivan Doncaster and when fully completed we hope visitors to the Grange will appreciate the displays of photographs and memorabilia around the building.

June Birthdays

This month we celebrate Peggy's birthday on the 25th June. Everyone at the Grange wishes you the very best of days and we hope you enjoy a wonderful birthday.

Terry Hallam Memorial Quiz.

Thank you to everyone who took part in our monthly quiz and congratulations to Gill and Margaret H for achieving top marks. Monthly scores are accumulated throughout the year and the overall champion or champions announced in December with names added to the trophy supplied by Terry's family. Well done and happy quizzing to you all.

Staff News

We would like to welcome Marta to the Care Team and Elodie to the Kitchen Team. We hope you will be very happy at the Grange.

Helping Others

Team Lenney would like to thank the Grange for supporting their fundraising efforts for Treetops and the hospice Ward 2 of the Florence Nightingale Community Hospital Derby in memory of Paul Lenney. We hope you will be able to join Team Lenney at the Chequers Inn at Breaston on July 6th from 2pm for an afternoon of music and entertainment from Richie Lee, Russell Weaver, Beautiful Community, the Anglers Mates and PJ and friends. Raffle tickets will be on sale from mid-June and we have some amazing prizes. Winning tickets will be drawn on the day at the "Summer Hootenanny" in Breaston. Along with entertainment and stalls there will also be a tombola and while we have some prizes donations are always welcome. All funds will be shared equally between the two causes with the donation for Ward 2 used to purchase comfort blankets, cushions, soft toys, children's books and journals relating to loss and grief. Paul will always be remembered as an incredible husband, father and grandad and helping children would give him solace. Shirley would like to add her personal thanks to everyone at the Grange, local businesses and to all staff and artists donating their time and support.
