The Grange Gazette
January 2024 Edition
Father Christmas called in at the Grange to visit residents and children.
A perfect start to Christmas.
A very big thank you to everyone for making Christmas so pleasurable. While we enjoyed a wealth of entertainment we would particularly like to mention the 2nd Long Eaton St. John’s Brownies who delighted residents with an evening of Christmas Carols and songs around the Christmas Tree. The Brownies kindly brought along handmade knitted gifts for residents and they later enjoyed freshly made gingerbread and refreshments after their concert. It was a memorable evening enjoyed by residents and Brownies alike and we look forward to seeing them again later in the year.
We must also thank Roger, Alan and Sally for visiting the Grange with an afternoon of Sea Shanties. They were amazing and we are hoping to
arrange further visits. The trio also made a kind donation to our fundraising efforts in aid of Treetops and the Ward 2 Hospice at Florence Nightingale Community Hospital Derby. Together with the money raised during our Family Party and Grand Raffle their donation helped to increase our efforts to a total of £305. 50 throughout December. Team Lenney and the Grange thank everyone for their continued support in their fundraising for this worthwhile cause.
Entertainment
During January we see the return of your favourite entertainers. However we are also looking forward to visits from Paul Newsham on the 9th and Stephen Flinders later in the month. Both will bring a little something different to the Grange. Paul is a retired Forensic Scientist and will share a light hearted and entertaining afternoon with residents helping him solve ‘A Mystery at the Grange’.
Local historian Stephen will bring his ‘Box of Curiosities’ to the Grange on the 31st to see if we can remember or guess the use of his mystery objects. Stephen’s enthusiasm is quite infectious and we look forward to an inquisitive afternoon of fun.
RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch
The annual birdwatch takes place at the end of January with the Grange submitting the results of our garden watch to the RSPB. Bird books, binoculars and counting sheets will be available.
Terry Hallam Memorial Quiz Trophy
We have enjoyed a year of quizzing to determine the annual Champion and once again we see the trophy shared between two participants. We are proud to announce Joyce retains her title as Quiz Champion and this year we are happy to announce Margaret H also shares this accolade. Congratulations to you both for continually taking part throughout the year and for achieving high marks on a regular basis. Sincere thanks to all our ‘quizzers’ with a particular mention to Margaret W for ‘knowing her onions’ or in Margaret’s case ‘knowing her apples’. You amazed everyone
during the ‘guess the name of the fruit game’.
Well done.
January Birthdays
This month we celebrate the birthday of Raymond
on the 9th and Joyce on the 15th January. Everyone at the Grange send their best wishes to you both and hope you enjoy the very best of days.
