THE GRANGE GAZETTE
JANUARY 2019 EDITION
NEW YEAR WISHES
We welcome 2019 and wish residents, family, friends and staff
joy, peace and happiness.
AND MANY THANKS
The support received during the Christmas Fayre on December 8th was nothing short of amazing. During an hour and a half you helped to raise the sum of £1,278.99 which is solely for the Resident’s Fund.
Our thanks to you all with a special mention to Angie and the kitchen staff, Lol, Honor, Trish and the volunteers who made the event possible.
Activities
January is usually a quiet month after the activities and entertainment of December. This year we will be taking part in the RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch which askes for an hour of your time on either the 26th, 27th or 28th January. During this hour we monitor and count the number of birds we see in the garden and the results are given to the RSPB who use the information to determine the decline or increase of birdlife in the area. As the dates approach we will look at the weather forecast to determine the best time to enjoy this event.
Throughout the month we will also enjoy bird themed activities and craft items will be displayed around the Grange.
Friday 25th January is Burns Night and we look forward to the visit from Jules who will be entertaining everyone on the main lounge as we celebrate this occasion.
Birthdays
This month we wish Doris and Gladys every happiness on their special days.
Doris celebrates her birthday on the 15th January and Gladys on the 22nd. Best wishes and Happy Birthday from everyone at the Grange.
Monthly Quiz
Throughout the past year the quiz sheets have been well received and more residents have taken part than ever before. It has continued to be a close competition and having taken into account the tie-break ‘make a word’ section of the quiz sheet we are pleased to announce our Quiz Champion of 2018 is …Ernest.
Well done Ernest on retaining your crown as the Grange Quiz Champion. We are very proud of your achievement.
DATES FOR YOUR JANUARY DIARY
Sandiacre Churches Together will be unable to visit the Grange during January but look forward to seeing everyone on their next visit during February
After reaching the live finals on televisions X Factor, Kieran is hoping to call into the Grange before he begins his tour of the UK, Dublin and the Far East.
Wednesday 23rd Alice will be joining everyone in the main lounge from 2pm
Friday 25th Burns Night is celebrated today and we welcome Jules from 2pm in the maim lounge with a selection of Scottish Reels to get your toes tapping. Try a Taste of Scotland with Shortbread, Dundee Cake and Drambuie….the choice is yours!
Our annual Haggis Hurling competition takes place during the morning with the winner announced after dinner.
Saturday-Monday 26th-28th the Grange will be taking part in the annual RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch over the weekend. For one hour on our chosen day we count the number and type of birds seen in our garden and the results are then forwarded to the RSPB.
There are days when we see lots of different birds in the garden and days when we see very few but any information we are able to provide will help determine the decline or increase of birdlife in the area. Shirley is usually found birdwatching in Norfolk or taking part in a beach clean for the Marine Conservation Society somewhere on the coast but throughout the week she will bring binoculars, books and information for everyone to enjoy. Please see Shirley and ask for a counting sheet if you prefer to join the bird watch from your own room.
Tuesday 29th Bob from the Owl Experience will be visiting from 2pm.
