The Grange Gazette
August 2024 Edition
We are super proud of our fearless assistant manager Trish and congratulate her on achieving a lifetime's ambition at
Langar Airfield at the end of July.
Thank you
July saw a culmination of events during which the Grange supported fundraising efforts in aid of Treetops Hospice and the hospice Ward 2 of the Florence Nightingale Hospice in Derby. Shirley would like to personally thank everyone for their support and understanding over the past two years and she appreciates all your contributions which have made a tremendous difference to the lives of others. During the July 7th event we raised a further £1045.90 and together with money from the sale of plants on 11 year old Vinnies Plant Stall, various raffles and the sale of bric-a-brac, this year the Grange has helped to raise £1576.40 shared equally between the two hospices.
The contribution to Ward 2 takes the form of comfort toys and blankets, children's memory boxes, children's books relating to loss and grief journals. Ward 2 greatly appreciate our efforts and Shirley hopes you will find it comforting to know your contributions help other children in the same situation as her grandson, Vincent.
Our thanks to the musicians for contributing their time; to Michelle and the Beautiful Community, to Richie Lee, Russell Weaver and the Anglers Mates. Thank you to the many individuals and companies who donated prizes and thank you to the Chequers Inn at Breaston too. Your kind hearts are beautiful.
Activities and Entertainment
After an outstanding performance in June Danny Gill will be returning to the Grange on Tuesday 27th August when he performs his Buddy Holly tribute act. Be sure to arrive in the main lounge by 2pm for this popular afternoon of entertainment. We will also be joined by our friends from the Hopfrogs Dance School and they will help everyone to rock and roll the hours away. Residents, families, friends and staff are always welcome and while we encourage 1950s outfits and fancy dress just come as you are and have a great time.
Our Memory Lane project is progressing well and after individual and group reminiscence activities your ‘spoken words’ have finally been collated. Your work is currently with a printer and will be made into pamphlets for residents and families to cherish. We would like to thank our residents for contributing their heartwarming stories and for enriching our lives with their personal memories.
The HeART and Soul Art Gallery in the dining area is also taking shape and we hope to have everything completed by the end of the month. Invitations to the opening will be issued to everyone and we hope you will take a moment of your time to view our work.
Terry Hallam Memorial Quiz
A big well done to our residents for taking part in the July quiz and congratulations to Joyce for achieving top individual marks this month very closely followed by Gill and Jean. Keep on quizzing!
