We hope you have enjoyed the lovely sunny weather over the past few weeks.
It was lovely to spend time in our beautiful garden, shaded under the gazebo surrounded by flowers and listening to the birds. What a difference to enjoy refreshments and the occasional meal al fresco!
We usually need an umbrella and a pair of wellington boots during the summer months and have to make the most of the warm weather before autumn arrives.
Thank you to everyone for taking part in our Summer Holiday project. We have decorated the foyer with some nostalgic posters and seaside memorabilia. You may also notice our map of the world. Shirley has noted the 50+ countries you have visited on the map. We discussed Alan Wicker and Judith Charmers….but they just couldn't competed with our globetrotting residents who have visited so many amazing places!
Shirley arranged a surprise visit from John McGovern at the beginning of the July. John is currently the ambassador at Nottingham Forest Football Club and he spent a lovely morning visiting residents, family, friends and staff while wishing Ernest a very happy birthday. John also spent time having photographs taken, signing autographs and telling stories of his time under Brian Clough and the European glory days. Nottingham Forest are always so kind when Shirley contacts them and she has passed on your many thanks to John and the club.
We are currently waiting to confirm a date with Hansons Auctioneers who will be visiting the Grange for a fundraising event. You may have seen Charles Hanson on 'Antiques Road Trip' and 'Bargain Hunt'. Charles has agreed to send one of his valuers to the Grange and we hope family, friends and staff will bring their antiques and items of interest for them to be appraised. There will be a fee of £1 per appraised item which will be added to the Resident's Fund. If you have a 'thingummy bob' in the back of the cupboard and want to know what it is or wonder if you have an item of value simply come along to the event. Shirley will post details on the notice board regarding dates and times as soon as possible. Vibez Danceworks have offered to visit the Grange on August 18th and will perform their dance routines in the garden. It will be a fun and exciting afternoon and we welcome family and friends to join us on the day. In the event of poor weather we shall re-schedule their visit.
We had a record number of residents taking part in the July quiz. Thank you to everyone who took part. Congratulations to Sheila, Ernest, Ida, Terry and Catharine for achieving top marks. A special mention to Catharine for embracing the 'French Day Quiz and Wordsearch' and to Miriam for her complete rendition of La Marseille. Tres bon!
We have a bumper month for birthdays! Everyone at the Grange send birthday wishes to Bill on the 6th, Betty on the 8th, Paul on the 17th, Freda on the 24th and Rita on the 29th.
Rosie the puppy is currently settling in at home with Ralph and will be a wonderful addition at the Grange.
