The Grange Gazette - July Edition 2024

A very big thank you to our friends from the Hopfrogs Dance School who joined the Grange for an afternoon of Rock and Roll while we danced and sang the afternoon away during a marvellous performance from Danny Gill as Buddy Holly. We enjoyed a wonderful afternoon with residents, families and friends and Danny will be returning in August for an afternoon not to be missed.

Activities and Entertainment

July is a busy time for sporting events. We are currently enjoying the UEFA Euro Football Championships while Wimbledon fortnight begins on Monday 1st July and runs until Sunday 14th. The Paris Olympic Games commence on the 26th July until the 11th August. We have our own balloon tennis championship and mini Olympics organised throughout the month ensuring lots of fun and laughter over the coming weeks with medals for all competitors.

Over the past few weeks our crafting community have worked diligently and completed our Van Gogh Sunflower Project. A special thank you to Val and Gill for all their hard work.

During the coming weeks we will be looking at the style of Rennie Mackintosh and interpreting his beautiful stained glass work. In the meantime our handyman Steve continues his work in the dining room to create our art gallery.

Art has the power to move people emotionally and to touch everyone's heART and soul.  Art can also create a sense of achievement. This reflects in our collective decision to rename the dining area the HeART and Soul Gallery.  We will announce the opening of our exhibition in due course with an invitation to all residents, families and friends. We hope you will take a moment of your time to view our work and enjoy exceptional and creative pieces of art.

Initially our crafters were inspired by Freda Khalo and the difficulties she overcame to become an artist.  In the words of our residents ‘If Freda can do it, we can do it’ which leaves Shirley in awe of everything you do and in your determination to try new art styles and techniques.  Be incredibly proud of everything you have achieved.

Summer Hootenanny

The Grange continues to help others by supporting the Summer Hootenanny at the Chequers Inn Breaston on July 6th with live music from 2pm.  Some performers are regular visitors to the Grange and we would like to mention our carer Michelle, who is a talented musician and will be entertaining everyone alongside the Beautiful Community who are an eight-piece saxophone band.

Raffle tickets are still available and the draw will take place during the event with almost £1000 of different prizes. Stalls and Hook-a-Duck on the day.

We are looking forward to a fantastic afternoon all in aid of Treetops and Ward 2 of the Florence Nightingale Community Hospital.

Terry Hallam Memorial Quiz

We had a fantastic response to our quiz last month relating to dogs which coincided with the visit from Bertie and Ruby the therapy dogs from Pooches. Well done to everyone for taking part and congratulations to Gill and Margaret H and Margaret W for achieving top marks.

July Birthdays

This month we celebrate five birthdays. We have a double celebration on the 9th when Margaret W and Ena both enjoy their special days. We wish Agnus many happy returns on the 14th and Eileen on the 20th while Sandra enjoys her birthday on the 21st. Everyone at the Grange wishes you all the very best of days.
